Shifter issue

The shift lever is stuck and will not work .with the neutral indicator flashing twice. I was told this was a problem with the switch, but on further investigation I realized that it was related to the brake light switch and the brake light indicator. The brake switch is activated as soon as one brake lever is touched. The brake lights come on and the ES system enters an error code (blinks 2 times). When the ignition key is turned off and restarted. This will reset the system and you can restart it.

The problem was not with the brake lights themselves (I removed the plug on the back of the car), but they failed when I pushed the lever.
