How to change tires on a truck

So how to change tires on a truck. Trucks can get into tire issues while driving. So today i will teach you guys the easiest ways to fix this issues so hang on with me. Park your vehicle on a firm, level surface. Some options include a garage, driveway, or quiet parking lot. A flat, stable surface keeps the vehicle from moving while you work on the tires. Also choose an isolated location that will not interfere with other vehicles.Hard surfaces are always better than soft surfaces. For example, soft ground may not support the weight of the truck, causing it to fall off the jack. The location you choose is an important part of a safe tire change. If you don’t feel safe where you are, it’s best to call a tow truck.

How to change tires on a truck – Place blocks around the wheels to prevent the truck from moving.

Wheel chocks are small pieces of rubber that fit under each wheel. Place chocks under the front and rear of each tire except for the tire to be replaced. If you don’t have blocks, use bricks or planks instead. Make sure they are tight under each wheel so they can’t spin at all. Plugs are sold at auto parts stores, but you can also buy them online. They are inexpensive but very effective in ensuring your safety when you are in the truck. You can also activate the parking brake of the truck for added safety.

If your truck has a hubcap, use a screwdriver to remove the hubcap. Most truck wheels have metal caps on the nuts. If you don’t see any open nuts, you will need to remove the cover. Insert the tip of a flathead screwdriver between the metal cap and the rubber tire. Then lift the cover towards you in several different places to remove it from the wheel. Some caps are held in place by nuts. Loosen all nuts gradually and evenly with a ring wrench until you can remove them.

Most trucks and rigs have wheel covers. Large vehicles, including semi-trailers, often have a combination of closed and open wheels.

Use a wrench to turn the lock nut counterclockwise to loosen it. Slide the open ends of the wrench over the lug nuts one at a time and start unscrewing them. It may be difficult to move them at first, but keep trying until you feel no more resistance. You may have to step on the wrench or put your weight on it to loosen the nuts. As soon as you feel it is loose, stop spinning and leave it on the wheel. If you find it difficult to tighten the stop nut, spray it with a rust preventative lubricant such as WD-40. Wrenches are fine for trucks and rigs, but for larger vehicles you’ll probably need a more durable tool. If you do it manually, try using the circuit breaker lever. Use a 1″ (2.5 cm) cordless impact wrench to help remove the nut. This is a hand tool, similar to a drill, but with an open end, designed to s fit on a lock nut.

The truck is raised by placing a jack underneath.

Choose a jack strong enough to support the weight of the truck, such as a hydraulic bottle jack. Many cars have notches near the wheel arches to indicate a safe place to put the jacks. When using a jack, raise the truck by pulling the handle up and down. Raise it so that the wheels are about 6 inches (15 cm) off the ground. For safety reasons, place the jack on the metal part of the frame and not on the plastic part. If you can’t find the jacking point just by looking at the truck, refer to the owner’s manual. To lift heavier trucks, including dump trucks and similar vehicles, use hydraulic lifts instead. Park the truck on the lift and lift it with the pump lever. Larger lifts are able to handle the extra weight. Very large trucks such as semi-trailers generally do not need a lift. The rest of the wheels can support the weight of the truck.

How to change tires on a truck – The installation jack is located under the truck next to the jack.

Pull the jacks up until they reach the bottom of the truck. Then slide them into place, making sure they support the metal frame of the truck. The kickstand supports the weight of the truck so it won’t fall off the jack. Use at least 2 jacks to support the loader and prevent it from falling off the jacks. Consider using 4 or more jacks, especially when handling something heavier than a standard truck.

Change tires

Turn the nut by hand counterclockwise to remove it. Now that you’ve lifted the tire off the ground, you can begin removing it from the truck. The nuts go first and should be easy to remove since you loosened them earlier. Rotate them as much as possible with your hands. If you can’t remove them completely, use a wrench or lever. Spray lubricants such as WD-40 as needed to loosen stuck nuts. You probably won’t need to use the nuts once they’re loose, but keep a bottle handy just in case. Using an impact wrench can make the removal process easier, although you won’t need it unless the nut is stuck.

Remove the wheel from the truck and lay it on the ground.

The wheels are heavy, especially for large trucks, so take your time. After unscrewing the nuts, you can pull the tire towards you. Grasp the top and bottom of the wheel and pull it towards you. Put on gloves to keep your hands clean and hold the steering wheel firmly. Some trucks, including semi-trailers and some pickup trucks, have dual wheels. If you need to access the inner tube, remove it after removing the tire. You may need to lie on your back under the car to loosen the lug nuts.

How to change tires on a truck – Install the new tire on the studs of the truck.

Align the wheel holes with the wheel arch studs. Putting the wheel on the hairpin, push it back until it stops. If you are replacing dual wheels, install both wheels on studs. Slide the inner wheel under the truck before inserting the outer wheel into the wheel well. Finding new tires can be difficult, especially for large trucks. Consider having someone help you remove the tire from the axle.

Reinsert the nuts and tighten them by hand. Don’t over tighten them. Turn them clockwise by hand until they stop. This will secure the wheel to the truck so you can begin removing the jack and jack stand.  Make sure the lug nuts are tight so the tires don’t come off when you put the truck back on the ground.

Lower and safer tires

Pull the jack under the truck. Use a jack to raise the forklift 1 inch (2.5 cm). This will give you some room to get under the truck and move the rack towards you. The foldable stand makes storage easy.  Before attempting to go under the jack, make sure the truck is stable on the jack.

Use the jack to lower the forklift.

If using a jack, remove the handle and connect it to the metal valve at the base of the jack. Pull the handle to gradually lower the jack until the truck wheels touch the ground. For hydraulic lifts, lower it until the truck is on the ground.  Don’t remove the cat right away. Wait to tighten the nuts with a wrench or a broken bar to make sure the new tires are secure.

How to change tires on a truck – Tighten the wheel nut by turning it clockwise with a wrench.

After grounding the new bar, finish tightening all of the lug nuts. Tighten them until they can’t move. Try removing the nuts by hand to taste them. If you can twist them, you haven’t got them tight enough. Use your legs or body weight as needed to crack hard nuts. If you’re not working with a truck, switch to a jackhammer or impact wrench. Please note that large trucks may have up to 10 wheel nuts. Be sure to get them all. If the wheel has a cap, replace the cap. Many wheel covers mount directly to the side of the wheel and can be replaced without special tools. Align the notch on the cap with the valve stem and slide the cap onto the wheel. Starting at the bottom edge, attach it to the bottom edge of the tire. Then place the top on the tire and tap it in with a rubber mallet or the soft end of a hubcap puller.  Some ceilings are in place. If you have this type, install it on the shear bolt before replacing the nut. Place the jack under the car until you finish installing it.
